“Why Do You Call on the Day of the Lord?”

eucharist logo year one.jpeg

When the prophet Amos spoke of “God coming close” it was warning. The people had hidden abuse, violence, and injustice in the shadows for too long, and God, like a blazing fire, was going to burn it all up.

That’s the day of the Lord. What does it have to do with sexual assault, and the #metoo movement?

Lamb vs. Beasts

Revelation is a weird and wild book, filled with larger than life imagery. Unfortunately it's also been wildly misunderstood. What is the Revelation of John actually about, and what does he want us to see?

What is a Missionary?

Robin shares wonderful and heartbreaking stories from his life as a missionary in some of the worlds most challenging places. He invites us to ask the question of where we are, and who we are called to. Warning: It's a challenging one!

The One Thing You Can Know About Your Future

imagineitforward.001.png

After four weeks of looking back we were set to spend one week looking forward. At least that was the plan. But then it got messed up. Because if there is one thing we've learned by telling our story back, it's that we have very little idea where any of this is going.

Organic or Organized?

What do the Occupy Movement, Hamilton Art Crawl, and my favourite closed-down burger shop have in common with Eucharist?

This week in the story of Eucharist: We hire the best haiku writer we can find, and things finally get a little more sustainable.

When the Glory Fades

After a long season of everything turning to gold, things start to get a little tougher for our church plant.

The very sad video we made about the events in this sermon:

Who Sat at the Table

tellingitbacksquare.png

When Eucharist started we knew that the table was going to be core to our identity: we would eat together at potlucks, love feasts, and the Lord's Supper. We would set an open seat and welcome whoever God brought to us.

What we didn't see coming was how difficult that would make things...

God's Not Done with Us Yet

tellingitbacksquare.png

SEVEN YEARS! It's been SEVEN years since Eucharist Church started gathering in downtown Hamilton, and it's been a wild ride.

How did we get here? Where did we start? What has God taught us along the way? These are the topics we'll be diving into over the next five weeks.

This week we're telling a story about dropping out of college, becoming a missionary, and squeezing a bunch of children into an old factory. The good news is that no matter what's happened in your story, no matter how old you are: God's not done with you yet!

The Difference Between Power & Authority

Paranoid, obsessed with what people think of him, unable to handle criticism, and without a shred of moral conviction; Herod the Tetrarch is a brilliant, ancient example, of a man with lots of power, but no authority.

Telling Your Friends the Truth

God is always trying to get our attention, through "good cops" and "bad cops," through prophets and friends. Let's try to speak the truth to one another, and be open to hearing it. Also, a short story about a swan.

Not Peace, But a Sword (and Other Uncomfortable Things Jesus Said)

eucharist logo year one.jpeg

File this one under "things we can't believe Jesus actually said." What does it mean to bring a sword to the world? Why is Jesus suddenly against peace? And of course, the most important question: would you be a Nazi in 1940's Germany?

Also, a brief interview with our new pastoral care intern, Rob Miller!

Stories from Sri Lanka & Playful Jesus

Fresh back from a sabbatical in Sri Lanka, Kevin shares some strange stories about stuff the Spirit said (that was as many words that start with "s" as we could think of).
