Jill walks through the "hinge" of the Lord's Prayer with us, and explains why a slasher film from her teens is a great metaphor for evil. Martin Luther and Nadia Bolz-Weber join the ride... Oh! Also! Palm Sunday!
Forgive Us Our Trespasses As We Forgive Those Who Trespass Against Us
Justin Roberts, who just finished a season of learning/shadowing at Eucharist, preaches on the otherworldly challenge and grace of forgiveness.
Give Us Today Our Daily Bread
As we continue in our Lenten sermon series we come across... a traditional 3 point sermon! So let's break down this part of Jesus' prayer: give us today our daily bread.
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done, On Earth As It Is In Heaven
We continue through our Lent 2017 sermon series talking about what it means for our WHOLE LIVES to be held up to King Jesus and the Kingdom. Also, this is the third last sermon Kevin will be preaching before his two month sabbatical.
Our Father, Who Is In Heaven, Hallowed Be Thy Name
For Lent 2017 we're going to be walking through the six parts of the Lord's Prayer. We begin in the beginning: who is God, and how should we pray to Him?
The Other Questions & The Story of Karam Kitchen
This week: a sermon in two parts.
First we hear the story of Karam Kitchen, a catering company made up of Syrian Refugees, who are able to sell their food in Canada because of local churches.
Then Jill and Kevin answer a few final questions on prayer.

"What's Up With Healing Prayer?"
So here's a follow up to last week: if prayer really, truly makes space for God's action in the world, what's up with healing prayer?
Does God heal? How does God heal? Do you need faith? How much faith? Why doesn't God just heal everyone right away? All good questions. Jill and Kevin share some reflections from scripture and their own stories.
"Does Prayer Change Us or God's Actions?"
Today's sermon is about the big one: why pray? What's the point if children still die, and hurricanes still swallow up cities, genocide ruins worlds, and refugee's have to flee their homes.
Is God good but weak, or all powerful and evil? Because how can he both be good and all powerful?
I (Kevin) haven't wrestled with a sermon like this in... years probably. But after a five year journey I feel like I have something important to share about prayer and what it means to believe "history belongs to the intercessors."
"How Can We Pray When We Are Angry and Grieving?"
How can we pray when we are grieving or angry? Because there is a lot to be grieved and angry about.
Jill and Kevin tag team "bring your anger to church" Sunday.
After the sermon we spent time writing out prayers of anger and grief. There were a lot of them and they were very honest. Later in the service we painted the sign of the cross over the prayers; a reminder of Christ's presence with us in suffering, and our standing with one another in the mess.
Sue Hamilton Shares Some Wisdom
This is the last week at Eucharist Church we're going to be interviewing people who inspire us, and who we think are full of wisdom.
Hopefully more wisdom to come, but not in interviews!
This week we get to talk to Sue Hamilton, a spiritual director of spiritual directors, and she had so much goodness to share with us!
Bob Mather-Dyer Shares Some Wisdom
WARNING: THE AUDIO IS KIND OF JANK.
For the next few weeks at Eucharist Church we're going to be interviewing people who inspire us, and who we think are full of wisdom.
This week we get to talk to Bob Mather-Dyer, a retired pastor and spiritual director who learned at 65 what he wishes he knew all along.
The Shadow Side of Faith
2014.02.16 - Prayer 2014 - Leshia Knopf
Leshia Knopf shares an honest and reflective sermon on suffering, lament, trust, and being angry with God. Leshia is a part of the Eucharist Church “Preaching Guild”, a student of theology at McMaster Divinity College, and has spent the last few months driving her mother back and forth to her cancer appointments.
Suffice to say, this is not an intellectual exercise.
Leshia draws from the (little preached on) prophet Habakkuk to present a way of wrestling with God that is both faithful and raw.
Jeff Wynands also lead us in songs of lament, including a remixed version of Psalm 137.
The music starts at 32 minutes.
The lyrics to the song are below:
If I sing it wouldn’t mean a thing
If I dance it wouldn’t prove a chance
If I shout it wouldn’t lift the doubt
But I will if just to trust
We sit in endless sorrow at this river of defeat
We hang our songs in sadness on this tree of memory
Our joys are shapeless shadows these foreign city streets
We’ve fallen prey to mockers and their morbid mockeries
These hands surrender function and this heart it stutters beats
Were I to forget mount Zion my lips would surely seize
The wreck and rubble of a promise now dust upon our feet
We pray the same for the infant of these wretched godless deeds
If I sing it wouldn’t mean a thing
If I dance it wouldn’t prove a chance
If I shout it wouldn’t lift the doubt
But I will if just to trust…
Your will is enough oh God
Father this city’s cursed but you bless it with your name
Oh son this home is exile but you make it all the same

Colossians 1:21-23
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behaviour. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.
This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

Liturgy: Why We Gather and Why It Matters - Prayer
2012.10.14 - Pastor Abraham - Liturgy: Why We Gather and Why It Matters
Matthew 21, Ezekiel 22, Acts 12, Acts 16, Mark 11
Something amazing happens when you cross cultures and allow God to speak in a whole new voice.
Pastor Abraham is our brother from the Congo. He prays a lot and says “oooh brother… itisgoooood” - he also laughs and lot and brings a seriously convicting and encouraging word.
His word to us on prayer shook the whole congregation, and filled us with a desire to be people who stand in the gap.
Music starts 54 minutes in.
