Is technology good or bad? Should Jesus followers have smartphones and social media? Should we create A.I. or upload our brains to the cloud?

Let’s jump into this nuance series with the drug everyones already on: Technology.

Following the podcast is the “Speakers Corner” where people from the Sunday gathering “added their nuance” to this weeks topic. Give it a listen and then carry on the conversation!

An Introduction to Nuance

In an increasingly polarized culture we need to learn to think like Jesus so we can live like Jesus.

Let’s begin with an introduction.

Praying for God's Building Project

WOAB.001.jpeg

Dave dug into Paul's prayer in Ephesians 1:15-23 by exploring four words: hope, power, culture, and the Church.  He summarized "the building work" Paul is up to like this: We pray that God would deepen and enrich the quality of our hope so that his power can flow in and through us as we live in a culture that resists and distracts us from living into the reality of being Christ’s body.

Colossians 3: 18-21

Nothing says “the road to Christmas” like women submitting to their husbands and children doing what their fathers say. Well, ok, so it’s a bit of a weird text for for the first week of Advent. But what if the problem isn’t what the text is saying.

What if the problem is that we don’t have the same ears as the original recipients. What sounds like bad (or repressive) news to us was filled with hope to them.

And that hope is what the Kingdom of God is all about.

The text:

Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

Word

Luke 22

The word of God is like a double edged sword… and sometimes if you swing a sword around without knowing how to use it, you might end up hurting someone.

This week we laughed a decent amount, Peter chopped a guys ear off, and we named the narratives we live in.

Music starts 54 minutes in.

Sex & Soma

1 Corinthians 6:12-7:6

Here’s the thing: sex is all around us. People talk about it, laugh about it, it’s the overarching theme in movies, books and Top 40 - it’s everywhere. And people are fine to talk about sex… until the conversation gets too serious. And then it gets awkward.

But if sex is such a big part of our lives and our culture, shouldn’t we talk about it seriously? Shouldn’t we hold some conviction? And shouldn’t God have something to say about it?

Well… considering the the length of this sermon, apparently God has quite a lot to say on it. What the Bible says about sex is shocking, radically counter-cultural, and good news for those with ears to hear it.

Also, we sort of used fake Twitter to do Q&A… it was fun.

Music led by Tim Selles and Jeff Wynands - starts 1 hour and 24 minutes in.
