Eucharist Church has a history of supporting refugees as they travel to and arrive in Hamilton. For our next refugee initiative, we have identified a family that we want to assist on their journey here.

It is an all too familiar story: War in Syria has forced millions to flee for their lives. This is also the story of the family we hope to sponsor. (For privacy, we’ll call them the ‘K’ family, for now.)

They left Aleppo and made it to Lebanon, but there is no future for them there. It is their dream and their prayer to be reunited with family already in Hamilton; to work and provide for their family, to send their children to school, to be able to pray and worship freely with other Christians.

The good news is that their application has been completed (no small feat!) and has been submitted to the Government of Canada (fall, 2022). This is a big milestone. However, the waiting continues. We have been told that we can expect a wait of about two years for their application to be processed. This is so difficult—for everyone, but mostly for the ‘K’ family. We ask that you pray for patience and perseverance.

Not only will we need to help set the ‘K’ family up when they arrive, but the Government of Canada has a formula that determines how much money must be set aside to support them as they start their new life here. It will help pay rent and cover expenses for their first 12 months in Canada.

We are super excited and so thankful that we have achieved our goal of $54,000!

At the moment, we wait for their application to be processed and pray. We will keep you updated here when things change.

Once their application has been approved, things likely will move quickly. But until then …
