What is this group all about?
We hope to provide an opportunity to those with lived experience of mental health challenges to meet with people in their community and share stories, sit in a safe space with others who understand, and extend compassion and support to one another.
What can I expect?
We meet once a month and typically we open up with prayer and check in with how one another are doing. This week in particular we're asking you to come prepared to talk about supports, resources, tools, and strategies that you've found helpful. We know there's no quick fix, and what works for some does not work for others, but let's come together with an open mind to hear stories of what folks have found helpful in lightening the load.
Who is this group for?
Whether you're heavily connected at Eucharist or brand new, whether you see mental health as a major challenge in your life, or something you are just beginning to experience, wherever you are at with faith, religion, God and life, you are welcome!
Why the name Sharing Spoons?
As Claire, one of the hosts, puts it:
"The term sharing spoons comes from a friend of mine who has a really hard time with her mental health and will often say when she isn't well that she's "just out of spoons" referring to spoons as her tools or resources or energy to keep pressing on. And so the idea is that this group will allow us to share our spoons with one another."
We hope you can make it!
